Message from the Secretary General

Dear Delegates, Advisors, and Guests,

Welcome to the 4th edition of ILG MUN!

It is an honor to welcome all of you to this year’s conference and to serve as your Secretary General. ILG MUN IV brings together students from different schools and backgrounds for a few days of debate, collaboration, and discussion on some of the most important global issues of today.

MUN is about much more than speeches and resolutions. It is about communication, cooperation, and building connections with others. Whether this is your first conference or one of many, I hope ILG MUN IV will be an experience that allows you to grow, challenge yourself, and create lasting memories.

Warm regards,

Parents are actively involved in governance and school life, making ILG a collaborative and inclusive community.

About ILG MUN

Model United Nations (MUN) is an educational simulation of the United Nations where students take on the roles of diplomats representing different countries. Participants debate global issues, develop solutions, and build skills in public speaking, negotiation, research, and critical thinking.

ILG Model United Nations (ILG MUN) is a student-led club founded in 2022 at ILG School. Since its creation, it has grown into an active international program with strong participation and recognition.

ILG MUN students have attended conferences around the world, including DSTMUN, ACTMUN, Yale Model United Nations, Harvard Model Congress Europe, and PHSMUN. Members have earned multiple awards such as Best Delegate and Honorable Mention, and have also served as Assistant Directors at major conferences including Yale MUN Europe.

ILG MUN has hosted three conferences so far, and the upcoming one will be its fourth, continuing its focus on diplomacy, leadership, and global engagement.

UNHRC

Junior Grades 6-8

Chair: Yana Blagoeva Petrova

Yana Blagoeva Petrova

My name is Yana Petrova, and I am a 12th grader at ILG School. My first experience with MUN began when I joined my new school, where I started as a nervous delegate who knew almost nothing about debating or conference procedures. Over time, I became more interested in global issues, public speaking, and the unique atmosphere MUN creates.

Since then, I have participated in international conferences such as Harvard Model United Nations, where I received Best Delegate, and Yale Model United Nations, where I served as an Assistant Director. I have also had the opportunity to chair the junior division of my school’s after-school MUN club.

Outside of MUN, I enjoy traveling, watching movies, trying new things, and spending time with friends and family. My goal for this conference is to create an environment where everyone feels confident sharing their ideas and learning from one another.

About UNHRC

The United Nations Human Rights Council is the main UN body dedicated to the promotion and protection of human rights around the world. In this committee, delegates examine situations where fundamental rights are threatened, discuss the responsibilities of states and international actors, and work toward practical recommendations that protect vulnerable communities.

UNHRC debates often require delegates to balance legal principles, humanitarian needs, political realities, and long-term prevention. Delegates are expected to think carefully about accountability, access to aid, protection of civilians, education, discrimination, and the role of international monitoring.

Because this is the junior committee, UNHRC is designed to help delegates build confidence with research, speeches, moderated debate, and resolution writing while still engaging with serious global issues in a structured and supportive setting.

Topics

  1. Protecting Children in Armed Conflict Zones
  2. Addressing Human Rights Violations in Territories Under Military Occupation

Chair: Rea Binaku

Rea Binaku

My name is Rea Binaku, and I feel proud to be serving as your chair during this conference! MUN has been one of my top passions, with me participating in many conferences, including HMCE, YMUNE, DSTMUN, and ACTMUN. I have received numerous awards, one of which was an honorable mention at HMCE, along with many Best Delegate awards throughout my MUN journey.

Outside of MUN, I enjoy travelling, connecting with new friends, swimming, playing volleyball, and more, all of which help me experience and learn about different cultures around the world.

As your chair, my vision is to provide all delegates with a professional, fun, and inclusive environment that encourages everyone to participate. Ultimately, I want this committee to challenge you all and help you develop critical thinking, cooperation, and public speaking skills.

I hope you all have a great time! I look forward to seeing you all!

About ECOSOC

The Economic and Social Council focuses on the economic, social, humanitarian, and development work of the United Nations. It connects issues such as poverty, inequality, education, labor, health, migration, development, and international cooperation, making it one of the broadest committees in Model United Nations.

In ECOSOC, delegates are asked to look beyond immediate political conflict and consider the systems that shape people’s lives. Strong debate in this committee often includes funding mechanisms, international partnerships, sustainable development, legal cooperation, and support for communities affected by crises.

As a beginner committee, ECOSOC gives delegates a clear introduction to formal debate while still challenging them to think about realistic, cooperative solutions that different countries could support.

Topics

  1. Combating Human Trafficking Through International Economic and Legal Cooperation
  2. Addressing the Humanitarian Consequences of Modern Warfare

UNODC

Intermediate

Chair: Rafael Macalintal

Rafael Macalintal

Hi everyone, my name is Rafael Macalintal and I am a 12th grader at ILG School. Five years ago, if someone had told me that Model UN would become one of the most important parts of my life, I would have laughed. My first conference was terrifying; I hated public speaking, lacked confidence, and only attended because my parents pushed me to.

But somewhere between my first nervous speech and countless debates, something changed. At a conference in Thessaloniki, I discovered the side of MUN that people rarely talk about: the unforgettable conversations, the excitement behind debate, and the confidence built with every speech.

Now, after attending 11 conferences over five years, MUN has become proof of how much a person can grow by stepping outside their comfort zone. I look forward to making new memories and experiencing once again the atmosphere that made me fall in love with MUN.

About UNODC

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime works on issues connected to organized crime, justice, corruption, drugs, terrorism, cybercrime, and the rule of law. In Model United Nations, UNODC debates often focus on problems that cross borders and cannot be solved by one country alone.

Delegates in UNODC must think about prevention, law enforcement cooperation, technology, education, legal reform, human rights, and international accountability. The committee rewards solutions that are specific and realistic, especially when they explain how states can share information, build capacity, and protect affected populations.

As an intermediate committee, UNODC expects delegates to connect security questions with legal and social consequences, making it a strong space for delegates who want a deeper and more technical debate.

Topics

  1. State-Sponsored Cyberattacks on Critical Infrastructure
  2. The Use of Education for Control and Human Rights Violations in Afghanistan Under Taliban Rule

Chair: Diego Muttoni

Diego Muttoni

My name is Diego Muttoni and I am in DP1 (11th grade) at ILG School in Pristina, Kosovo.

I started my MUN journey 5 years ago and have participated in more than 12 conferences during that time, where I gained valuable experience, built lasting friendships, and received several awards that further strengthened my passion for MUN. Throughout my journey, I have also had the opportunity to serve as a Chair, Assistant Director, and Secretary-General, which allowed me to develop my leadership and organisational skills.

I am honoured to be one of the Chairs for the UNSC committee. I am very excited to share this experience with you and to help create a committee where everyone's opinions are heard and valued.

Hope to see you all in November!

Chair: Erika Duraku

Erika Duraku

Hi everyone! My name is Erika Duraku, and I am an 11th grader at ILG School. I am so excited to be one of your chairs for the UNSC Committee.

My MUN experience started in 2023, and since then, I have had the chance to participate in several conferences and experience MUN from different roles, including as a delegate, chair, assistant director, and now as Deputy Secretary-General for this conference. Each experience has helped me become more confident, open-minded, and aware of how important collaboration and respectful debate are.

Outside of MUN, I enjoy watching sci-fi films and reading classics, as well as other fiction books. As your chair, I hope to help create a committee where everyone feels prepared, respected, and encouraged to participate. I will work hard to make this an engaging and unforgettable experience for all of you.

I can’t wait to meet you all in November!

About UNSC

The UNSC is responsible for maintaining international peace and security. It is one of the most powerful UN bodies, dealing with armed conflict, threats to sovereignty, peacekeeping, sanctions, ceasefires, and urgent crises that may affect regional or global stability.

In UNSC, delegates must respond to complex security problems under pressure. Debate requires strong knowledge of international relations, alliances, state interests, military and economic consequences, and the limits of diplomacy. Unlike many other committees, UNSC resolutions often focus on immediate action and crisis management.

As the advanced committee, UNSC is designed for delegates who are ready for fast-paced debate, detailed policy arguments, and high-level negotiation. Delegates should be prepared to defend national interests while still working toward solutions that can realistically protect peace and security.

Topics

  1. Addressing Disputes over Territorial Sovereignty in Lebanon and the Palestinian Territories
  2. The Impact of Oil Crises in the Middle East on Global Economic and Political Security
